Public Schools: Choices that Work
Public School Choice in South Carolina provides students more educational options by encouraging the establishment of Public School Choice programs and structures in districts across the state. Expanded program and structure choices in public education give parents the option to choose an environment best suited for their student's learning needs and interests. Each district or school decides which Public School Choice program or structure fits its learning community. By providing diversified options in public education, South Carolina will continue to prepare its students for graduation and post-secondary pursuits.Every family in South Carolina should have viable and substantive choices for their children within the public education school system.

Public School Choice Legislation
The proposed Public School Choice bill, sponsored by Lexington County Republican Ted Pitts, would create public school choice committees in the state’s local school districts, each charged with creating new curriculum choices at the elementary, middle and high school levels within two years. The new legislation would not mandate cross-district transfers. Instead, each district's public school choice committee would adopt a proposal for at least one cross-district choice within three years and present that proposal to its local school board. Implementation would be at the discretion of local school boards. Click here for more information.
